Doubles Pool Competition – Description
The Doubles Pool Competition is a team-based event where pairs of players compete together in a test of skill, teamwork, and strategy. Each team consists of two players who alternate turns and shots throughout the match. The competition promotes camaraderie and coordination, as success depends not only on individual shot-making ability but also on communication and tactical planning between partners.
Matches are played under standard 8-ball (or 9-ball) rules, with teams competing in a knockout format. The top teams advance through the stages until the championship final, where the winning pair is crowned.
The event welcomes players of all skill levels and encourages friendly competition in a respectful, sportsmanlike environment. Prizes are awarded to the winners and runners-up, along with recognition for outstanding play and teamwork.

Doubles Pool Competition Rules (Blackball)
1.
Team Composition
- Each team consists of two players.
- No substitutions are allowed once the competition begins.
- Both players must be present when their match is called.
2.
Match Format
- Matches are played under Blackball rules (World Blackball Federation standard).
- Games may be played as:
- Race to 3 frames upto the finals (best of 5)
- Race to 5 frames for the finals (best of 7)
- The break alternates between teams.
- The first brake is detrimend by coin toss or lag
3.
Order of Play
- Partners must alternate turns at the table.
- Example: If Player A takes a shot and pots a ball, Player B takes the next shot.
- The only exception is when a player returns to the table after the opponent’s visit — then the order resets, and either partner may start.
- If a player takes consecutive visits in error, it counts as a foul.
4.
General Rules of Play (Blackball)
- The game is played with fifteen coloured balls (7 yellows, 7 reds, 1 black) and a cue ball.
- A fair break requires at least one ball to be potted or two balls to pass the halfway line.
- After the break:
- If a ball is potted, the table is open until a legal pot of a specific colour is made.
- Once groups (reds/yellows) are decided, a team must pot all their balls before attempting the black.
- The first team to legally pot the black wins the frame.
- Standard Blackball fouls apply (e.g., no ball hits cushion, potting cue ball, hitting opponent’s colour first).
5.
Fouls and Penalties
- Two visits are awarded to the opposing team after any foul.
- Common fouls include:
- Potting the cue ball.
- Playing out of turn.
- Not making contact with your own colour first.
- Failing to hit a cushion after contact.
- Potting the black before all your balls are cleared.
- In doubles, playing twice in a row is also a foul (except when returning after opponent’s visit).
6.
Conduct and Etiquette
- Coaching or advising a partner is allowed only during your team’s visit and before the shot.
- Excessive talking, distracting opponents, or unsportsmanlike behaviour may result in a warning or frame loss.
- Referee decisions are final.
7.
Winning the Match
- The team that wins the required number of frames is declared the winner.
